Niagara Falls

Well, I can check another item off the bucket list! Niagara Falls is one spectacular natural wonder!

We pulled into the hotel parking lot, and we could hear the roar. It was dark when we arrived after 9:00, but as soon as we were checked in to our room, we had to walk through the park to see where all the noise was coming from. We weren't alone. Dozens of people were standing at the railing, watching the rapids and falls (which are lighted), oooooing and aaaaawing, and trying to take photos. Everyone there seemed to be as awestruck as we were.

The rapids just before the American falls tumble over, looking toward the lights on the Canadian side of the river.

The American falls, lit up by spot lights on the Canadian side.

The next day, we walked all over the park, stood out on the observation tower, went down to the bottom of the American Falls, visited the Cave of the Winds walkway that practically goes under the Bridal Veil Falls (we got soaking wet, as did Sam's little webbiecam), and finally that evening, we had dinner in the revolving dining room at the top of the Skylon Tower on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The view from the tower was absolutely breathtaking, and the food wasn't half bad either, as my dad would say!

The Maid of the Mist boats that get customers up close to the Canadian Falls.
These are the wooden walkways that are rebuilt every year, and used to take visitors into the Cave of the Winds, which doesn't exist anymore, due to a couple of major rock falls in the 20's.
I guess this is why the bridge that crosses over the Niagara River, from the US to Canada, is called the Rainbow Bridge.
Sea Gull resting on a log, on the edge of the falls.
The American Falls. No one has ever survived going over them because of the rocks below.
The Canadian Falls. There was so much mist from these, that it felt like it was raining when we walked on the Canadian side.
Goat Island, which separates the two sides of Niagara Falls.
Skylon Tower, where we had dinner with a fantastic view.
Needless to say, at the end of the day, we were really tired when we returned to our room that night, ready to get a good night's sleep before our 10 hour drive to New England the next day.
